I was asked to join in on a photography challenged hosted by Death to Stock Photo featuring the theme, "Right in the Mix". The instructions were: you have less than 24 hours to shoot and edit your selection. For me, the theme was pretty challenging. What on earth could I do that would be "right in the mix". I wanted to stay away from usual go-tos in Los Angeles and while I was at my favorite coffee shop, Dinosaur Coffee, I realized I had my subject: Vincent Lamouroux's latest art project, ProjectionLA. If you live on the east side, you know that this white washed building, once home to the Bates Motel, is a hot spot for visitors. I grabbed my latte, camera and a stellar spot across from the white whale: a solid spot for people watching.
Once I gathered my selects, it was off to home to edit and prepare for a night at the gallery. Luckily my good friend (and photographer) Elli Papayanopoulos provided me with some top notch tips on editing quickly. I'll be real: I was in crunch! By the grace of God, I made the deadline, uploaded my images and hoped into a LYFT. It was off to the show to meet the other photographers, Death to Stock Founders (Allie and David) and discuss our images. I couldn't believe the variety, the creativity and fun that happened from the one day challenge. Good times and boy am I ready for the next one!
